Choos for the masses

Ok.  I’m having palpitations.  I can scarcely believe it but Jimmy Choo is collaborating with H&M.

The collection is scheduled to hit stores on November 14 and will include shoes (duh), bags, accessories and clothes.

Sorry, but I need to go lie down now.

Wanted

I’m in the market for a black bag with gold hardware.  I’m very peculiar about the specs though.  I really want to be able to wear it comfortably on my shoulder.  And it must, must, must be easy to get in and out of.  (Watch yourself, Paddington.)

Unfortunately, that takes a couple of beautiful bags out of the running.  The Jimmy Choo Ramona is a stunner for sure, but the strap over the top opening makes it a no-go for me.  I just can’t be bothered with fumbling around trying to get stuff out of the way just to get in my bag.  And I can almost guarantee you that that piece would constantly be floating around flipped backwards because I won’t take the time to properly fasten it every time I use the bag.

The Kooba Jacinda is also out because of the shoulder straps.  I have the Jacinda in an ivory-ish color and it’s got just enough of a drop to wear on the shoulder but it’s a bit tight and the straps are sewn in such a way that it’s almost constantly slipping off.

So I think I might have narrowed it down to these two:

The Rebecca Minkoff Devote ($630) is a serious contender.  It meets both of my requirements with an adjustable strap that allows for up to an 11 inch drop and an easy top snap closure.  Ain’t she a beaut’?

Another option is the  Zoe bag by Coach ($498).  It has a generous 14 inch drop and a simple zip closure.  This is classic Coach styling…

These two bags are very different.  One’s a little bit country club and one’s a little bit rock and roll.  One’s front row at Fashion Week and one’s front row at the Junior League monthly meeting.  One’s Carrie and one’s Charlotte.  Me?  Well, I guess I’m a little bit of all those things.

Decisions, decisions…

Enter the Statement Shoe

Sources all over the web say the It Bag is on its way out and that focus is headed far south – to the foot.

What makes a better statement than a Jimmy Choo stiletto ($656)?  The patent Gem pump has a 4 1/2″ heel and a 3/4″ hidden platform so you’d better be pretty steady on your feet before you step out in these.

I love the double band and gold studs on these.  Very rock star!

Or take flight in these Prada peep toes with wing detail on the heel ($712).  They simply smack of classic Prada construction and intricate design.   Truly a showpiece…

Obamarama

Is Michelle Obama our generation’s Jackie Kennedy?  I think she’s certainly closer to that distinction than any other First Lady has come.  Let’s take a look at some of her moments in the spotlight…

For Inauguration Day, she chose New York-based deigner Isabel Toledo.  This lemongrass ensemble stood out in a sea of red and blue.  Her green J.Crew gloves and coordinating Jimmy Choos complete the look without being too “matchy-matchy”.

Michelle Obama - Inauguration day

Criticized by some for not being bold enough in her color choice, I think she looks absolutely radiant in this white gown by Jason Wu.  As anyone who watched the Golden Globes red carpet knows, one shoulder gowns are the silhouette of the season.

This dress from the Democratic National Convention is unmistakably Thakoon.  It’s a great use of color and pattern, modest and flattering all at the same time.

Michelle Obama - DNC

Here she is in standout purple, supporting Chicago designer Maria Pinto.  This dress is classic Kennedy to me, but the belt brings it current.  (I believe this was the night of the “infamous” fist-bump.  Can anyone explain the media storm that created???)

Michelle Obama - on the campaign trail

Her election night choice, this Narciso Rodriguez dress is considered by many to be her only major sartorial misstep.  While it’s perhaps not my favorite, I don’t quite get the uproar it caused in the fashion community.  The criss-cross cummerbund isn’t the most flattering but I think, as a whole, this dress showed she’s not afraid to take a chance.

******Edited to Add******

I just spotted this most recent look by designer Tracy Feith, as worn to a service at the Washington National Cathedral yesterday morning.  This gorgeous frock is yet another nod to Jackie with its distinctly 50’s/60’s silhouette, elegant boat neckline and elbow-length sleeves.  Perfect.
